Salt & Mirrors & Cats

An upcoming literary zine with stories, poems and art about superstitions

Dear readers,

I’m incredibly humbled to share with you all that I’ll be working with the very creative and talented Superstition Sam and the wonderful artist PrairieBones on a new project that will bring superstitions as short stories, poetry and art to your home!

Salt & Mirrors & Cats will be a vintage style literary magazine and to turn this dream project into a reality we need your help! In this post you’ll find some more information about what we’re hoping to do and how you can help.

About the project

Salt & Mirrors & Cats is an upcoming vintage-style literary magazine founded by Superstition Sam and Signe Maene, with layout design by the folk horror illustrator Prairie Bones.

Our purpose is to publish a variety of voices from new and established authors inspired by the whimsical—but sometimes, also frightening—world of superstitions, with submissions ranging from short stories to poetry, as well as flash fiction, artworks, and referenced articles.

Additionally, we would also be working in collaboration with The Alternative Stories and Fake Realities Podcast to produce an audio version of the best stories submitted to our zine.

How you can help

But we need your help to turn this dream project into a reality! By contributing to our goal, you will be helping us towards:

- Printing costs, so that we can create a physical copy of our zine,

- Design commissions, created by the wonderful Prairie Bones,

- And most importantly, author payments—as we believe in the importance of supporting the creators who shall transport you to their own magical, unique, and superstitious world in the pages of our zine.

As a Backer Reward, everyone that contributes to our goal shall receive a FREE DIGITAL COPY of Salt & Mirrors & Cats once it’s finished, with the addition that every supporter that contributes with over £20 shall also have their name printed in the magazine, together with our eternal gratitude.

Then, once we reach our goal, a call for submissions will be put out and everyone will be welcome to submit!

Help us here!

Any kind of help, no matter how small, is important and will make a real difference. That’s why, even if we don’t reach our target goal, we shall still go ahead with our project, except that we would aim for a proportionally lower quantity of submissions.

Thank you so much for reading! We hope it’s a project you’ll all love. Expect a new Flemish folktale about a very special and spooky goat with a wonderful artwork by an amazing artist in your inbox very soon!
